17 May 08 - Nutrition – Beer, Pringles and Vegemite Sandwiches

Spoke to a pretty high profile bike racer today who says that he swears by “Pringle” brand chips during MTB events. He says that they are very easy to digest and have lots of sodium.

He also suggested that rather than munching on muesli bars and the like simply make a Double Decker wholegrain vegemite sandwich and roll it flat with a rolling pin. Cut it up into squares and wrap it and you’ve got an easy to digest fuel source while riding. (I’ll have to give this a try).
Oh and he also said that the odd beer is handy source of carbohydrates during the 24 hour rides. Sounds a bit sus but I have to admit to a having a couple of beers during the Merida 24 hour.
